Plum (slyva) for Ukraine and for Lithuania a fig: Poverty in Lithuania is not decreasing year after year

“It is noted that in Lithuania if a person receives benefits for social security, he is condemned to remain poor.

 

- Just as the average old -age pension or the average social security benefit is lower than the risk of poverty. If we look at the lowest benefit - social benefit, when people are not working longer, have a lot of problems, this benefit is four times lower, than the risk of poverty.

 

- What to do about that?

 

  - Raise benefits, increase funding for social security. For several years, there is a tax reform discussion. As if this session will something come to the Seimas. It is to be hoped that this will not be cosmetic and can actually be used to reduce poverty. This is if the government is committed. It is very important to increase benefits while helping people. If a person has a lot of stubborn problems, bailiffs, they have relatives who cannot be left at home alone, if they are without qualification, maybe they do not have transport to take a job. There are regions with a very high unemployment rate and how much we would like to help a person, but very few jobs."
