U.S. News: Trump Seeks to End All Harvard Contracts

"The Trump administration is seeking to end the remaining federal contracts with Harvard University, according to a letter being sent to federal agencies Tuesday, in the latest escalation of the president's battle with one of America's most prestigious schools.

The General Services Administration called for a review of federal contracts in a letter viewed by The Wall Street Journal, saying the Ivy League school engaged in antisemitism and race discrimination in its admissions process.

The request involves about 30 contracts valued at about $100 million, a person familiar with the matter said.

"We recommend that your agency terminate for convenience each contract that it determines has failed to meet its standards, and transition to a new vendor [whose] contracts could be better serviced by an alternative counterparty," wrote Josh Gruenbaum, commissioner of the GSA's Federal Acquisition Service.

Harvard didn't respond to a request for comment.

The review is the administration's latest broadside against Harvard. President Trump has pulled billions in federal funds from the university, threatened its tax-exempt status and is trying to block the school from enrolling international students.

On Monday, Trump said he was considering redistributing billions of dollars in grant money intended for Harvard to trade schools across the country.

Trump has continued to apply pressure on Harvard. Last week, the Department of Homeland Security said it was cutting off Harvard's ability to enroll international students before a federal judge temporarily halted the move.

In March, the Trump administration said it was reviewing nearly $9 billion in federal funding.

Harvard filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration, saying it has violated the university's constitutional rights and threatened its academic independence.

Tuesday's letter said federal agencies should submit a list of cancellations or potential actions by June 6, and encouraged agencies to "seek alternative vendors for future services."

The GSA's Gruenbaum is a member of the federal Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, formed earlier this year to "root out antisemitic harassment in schools and on college campuses." The task force, which pulls from agencies across the federal government including the Justice Department and the Department of Health and Human Services, has pulled or frozen billions of dollars in federal funds from institutions including Columbia University and Harvard.” [1]
