    "Prohibition of journalists from working a kilometer from the border is being changed. Deputy Minister of the Interior Kęstutis Lančinskas has informed that it is planned to change the order of the head of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), which provided for this, and there will be no kilometer left.

 

    In practice, this does not mean that journalists will have the opportunity to record the procedure for rejecting migrants and to present and check information at the border.

 

    "If it can be called negotiations (with the journalist community), then the negotiations ended negatively, to the detriment of journalists, the decisions of the head of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) will be corrected. In principle, journalists will still not be able to visit the border.

 

    The procedure for applying to the SBGS will remain the same, but the kilometer will disappear and only 100 meters will remain, which is not related to the border guard trail and other necessary infrastructure to ensure border protection, ”said Kęstutis Lančinskas, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior.

 

    The Deputy Minister confirmed that journalists will be able to work independently in that part of the kilometer from the border. If they wish, they will be able to ask the SBGS to take them to the raids. "

 

    "Officials will decide on a case-by-case basis, depending on the need and request of journalists. But two things need to be understood: one thing is the state of emergency and the situation at the border is very tense. A large number of journalists will certainly not be allowed to enter the SBGS at the same time.

 

    Journalists will have to agree among themselves on the order and how to meet their needs, because, as you know, ten journalists at a time means at least ten guards are removed from direct office.

 

    In this situation, yes, it will be possible, but it will be necessary to agree separately, and it will be necessary to coordinate actions between the editors so that there is no competition and accusations of the SBGS that some are allowed, others are not, ”said K. Lančinskas.

 

    According to the Ministry of the Interior (MIA), journalists will remain required to keep a distance of 100 meters and not be on the patrol path used by official transport and traces, writes BNS. Unfortunately, the distance of 100 meters in the forest does not allow to see anything.

 

    The Ministry of the Interior states that the change in the procedure is being prepared and should take effect within a couple of working days.

    Images of the incident at the border spread in the media on Wednesday, where, according to footage, a service dog bites into a sleeping bag in which a man is lying.

 

    That image initially began to spread in Belarusian propaganda channels. Representatives of the SBGS later explained that the sleeping bag initially looked just like a deck dropped on the ground and did not see a man there. And when the service dog attacked, the dog was not controlled by an official blinded by the searchlights of the Belarusian border.

 

    "Yesterday, material from the Belarusian side and the Lithuanian border guards was distributed. If you notice, the same thing can be shown completely differently and with different comments.

 

    Knowing the situation as it really was there, there was nothing special about it. The Lithuanian official was blinded by Belarus. The dog reacted to the sleeping bag, not the man. And when a person came out of that sleeping bag, the dog was immediately controlled, and that person did not suffer, ” - K. Lančinskas lied.

 

    The Deputy Minister of the Interior Ministry ensured that excessive force was never used in the event of rejection.

 

    "I can assure you that in the case of those repulsions, excessive force was never used," Lančinskas said.

    Dainius Radzevičius, President of the Lithuanian Union of Journalists, was pleased that the ban on journalists working within a kilometer of the border was lifted.

 

    "It simply came to our notice then. We have lessons from the experience of our close neighbor, Ukraine. It has been more than five years since we studied and saw what speculation was going on, something called conflict, something called war, but we fully understand that the Ukraine-Russia war was nothing less than a war.

    The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior explained that the order remains unchanged. According to him, the level of security in that section close to the border is relative.

 

    "Journalists will still have to inform the SBGS that they are visiting and that they are there. This is for their own safety. Because imagine not knowing that someone has arrived there, all sorts of incidents are possible. When there are a large number of armed people on both sides, the level of security is always relative,” - said K. Lančinskas. According to the Deputy Minister, a variety of provocations are possible.

 

    "We do not rule out the possibility that a person visiting the border may be involved on the other side. We instruct the border guards every time, they know how to protect themselves and avoid provocations. And how to avoid such incidents," - said K. Lančinskas.

 

    The President of the LUJ reminded that last year the updated recommendations of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe were issued to journalists working in places where there is a possibility of conflict.

 

    "I suggest you read them. (…) We have good experience with the Police Department. We have organized training on both riots and other things. If necessary, I hope we will do additional things. But it seems to me that the editors should also think first of all that the health and life of a journalist is more important than any information gathered, even if we, the journalists, sometimes look at this differently," - said Radzevičius."
