Where do employees earn well in Germany? The best salaries are in biotechnology

"This news fits in pretty well with the pandemic year: In an industry comparison, employees in biotech companies get the highest salaries. A new comparative analysis shows where else is well paid. With an average gross annual salary of around EUR 67,500, the biotech industry is also ahead in terms of compensation in the corona year. This is the result of an extensive salary analysis by the compensation consultancy "Salary.de", which is based on 220,500 salary data records from the past 12 months. Specialists from the biotechnology industry are "in the focus of the pandemic, because they actively contribute to the fight against corona with their work - for example by developing vaccines," write the authors of the salary analysis. Their figures are not representative, because only users of the Internet database provide information voluntarily and, for example, the data of people who are not Internet-savvy, are not interested in salary comparisons or simply do not use the relevant web page are not included.
Due to the very high number of information, it is possible to get an impression of which economic sectors and regions are more lucrative than others. In addition to the biotech companies, the capital goods industry and semiconductor manufacturers are at the top of the list. The banks and the pharmaceutical industry follow in fourth and fifth place. The worst paid was in hotels and restaurants - hardly surprising in the corona year. However, these places were known for meager salaries even before the pandemic. On average, skilled workers there earned 28,963 euros gross in the past 12 months. Call centers, retailers and - also typical for the corona year - tourism and leisure were also among the "flop areas".
The salary analysis also shows regional differences in Germany; between Southern and Eastern Germany there is a difference of up to 13,000 euros in annual earnings. Baden-Württemberg stands out particularly positively: Here the income exceeds the nationwide level for employees by almost eight percent. But also in Hessen and Hamburg the earning potential is above average compared to other federal states.
A look at the differences in earnings between specialists and managers reveals how much personnel responsibility still pays off on the pay slip: specialists earn an average of 41,500 euros and managers around 95,100 euros a year. In a regional comparison, the salaries for managers in Hessen are particularly high.
The data also confirm the fact that studying tends to pay off in view of a higher salary later on: Academics earn an average of 57,040 euros gross annually, while non-academics only earn 37,800 euros.
And in which individual occupations are the highest salaries available? Head physicians top the list with a gross annual salary of EUR 196,251; followed by senior physicians with 121,748 euros. Incidentally, doctors found themselves at the top of the payroll even before the corona pandemic. This is followed by employees in sales control or sales management, regional sales managers for capital goods and commercial managers. According to the analysis, IT manager - a very popular profession in the pandemic - “only” reached fifth place in terms of salary."
