“President Trump said his proposed 100% additional tariffs on goods from China were "not sustainable," buoying markets Friday afternoon.
In an interview with Fox Business's Maria Bartiromo, Trump blamed Beijing, saying "they forced me to do that."
"China has ripped us off from day one," Trump said. "We have a very strong adversary, and they only respect strength."
Nevertheless, the president said he thought the U.S. was "going to do fine with China" and that he gets along "great" with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Both leaders are expected to attend a gathering of Asia-Pacific leaders in South Korea this month.
Trump's comments follow a renewed flaring of tensions between Beijing and Washington.
China last week imposed restrictions on the export of rare-earth minerals, which are vital to consumer electronics and the tech industry. Trump then threatened to levy extra tariffs on Chinese goods starting Nov. 1.” [1]
Now the big question is: What else could unsustainable? Some limits on selling technology?
