Habits under Pressure Reveal Readiness

“"A Brutal Battle for High-School Spots," Personal Journal, Oct. 9) nicely spotlights the pressures around school admissions.

What's often missed is what many schools scan for: mission-aligned strengths.

I am a licensed psychologist and school strategist with a decade of experience. My work isn't resume-buffing; it's helping families match a child's learning profile to a school's values and making those strengths visible under evaluation.

Habits under pressure reveal readiness: a student who asks a clarifying question instead of freezing, repairs a mistake without spiraling and a parent who works with the school to build executive function.

Those patterns signal curiosity, integrity and collaboration -- the traits that help children thrive in community.

Admissions done well isn't performance; it's a partnership that builds readiness over time. Many schools already lead with that lens. Families can too.
