"In general, due to the loss of potassium fertilizers in the port of Klaipeda and in the Lithuanian transport system, well-paid work (the average salary is even 4,700 euros) would result in the loss of about 300-500 people.
The loss of Belarusian cargo, not only potassium fertilizers, would also lead to significant losses of Klaipeda port. A serious question would arise regarding the activities and prospects of MSC in Klaipeda port, as the container terminal Klaipedos Smelte was basically designed to transit consumer goods to Belarus. Due to the loss of Belarusian cargo, further dredging of Klaipeda port in the central and southern part of the port would become meaningless. Dredging with a perspective of up to 17 m was planned here precisely due to the possible further activities of Klaipėda Smeltė and Bulk Cargo Terminal, which could be mainly related to Belarus.
If economic relations with Belarus were completely cut off, there would be no more truck and railway flows passing through Lithuania through its territory, the Viking shuttle train route, which had been maintained and developed for decades, would be interrupted, and transit would be hampered not only to Ukraine but also to Lithuania-friendly Caucasus countries.
The Lithuanian petrochemical industry - such as Achema, Lifosa, and Orlen Lietuva - would also suffer from the disruption of communications through Belarus and the disruption of logistics chains, both due to the supply of raw materials and export losses. Their losses and the reduction of production capacity by boomerang would again occur in Klaipeda port."
