"Chinese automotive group GAC has announced the
creation of a new brand for flying vehicles – GOVY – and unveiled its first
AirJet model. This is a groundbreaking step towards integrating road and air
transport, as well as a symbol of the Chinese company's ambition to pioneer
next-generation mobility.
In this article, you will learn:
What ambitions does the Chinese automotive group GAC have in
the context of future transportation?
What distinguishes the first model of the flying car, the
Govy AirJet, and what are its technical capabilities?
What are GAC's plans for the commercialization and
certification of its innovative aerial vehicles?
The new Govy brand will cover the full development cycle of flying
vehicles – from research and production, through sales, to operational services
and ecosystem solutions. This marks GAC's entry into the low-altitude mobility
market, where the line between car and drone is beginning to blur. "GAC
has been combining advanced electric drives, artificial intelligence, and
modern design for years. Now, it is moving this technology from the roads into
the air. This is the next step." "This is a significant step in the
evolution of mobility, which could transform the way we travel around
cities," says Marcin Słomkowski, Managing Director of Jameel Motors
Poland, GAC's representative in Poland.
The first
vehicle from the new brand, the Govy AirJet, is an electric flying car with
composite wings and a propulsion system enabling vertical takeoff and landing.
Its over 90% carbon fiber construction significantly reduces
its empty weight, increasing range and efficiency. The AirJet reaches a top
speed of 250 km/h and a range of over 200 km, and its batteries can be charged
in just 30 minutes. Subsequent generations will use solid-state batteries,
extending the range to up to 400 km. The interior is designed with a 1+1+X
layout – pilot, passenger, and flexible space for additional equipment or
passengers. The luxurious cabin, with a panoramic "Pixel Galaxy" roof
that imitates a starry sky, emphasizes the vehicle's futuristic character.
The AirJet
also offers autonomous flight mode, multi-layered safety systems, and obstacle
detection.
GAC is simultaneously developing the Robo-AirTaxi concept,
an integrated air-land transport system. Within this system, short urban routes
up to 20 km will be served by the Govy AirCar, while intercity flights up to
200 km will be served by the AirJet. The system is intended to enable the
creation of a so-called "40-minute circle of life" in the
Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau region, where travel between major urban centers will
take no longer than 40 minutes. GAC plans to obtain airworthiness certification
for the AirJet in the coming years, and the first demonstration flights are
scheduled for 2027. Production lines and pre-sales are scheduled to begin at
the same time. The goal is to accelerate the commercialization of air mobility
and incorporate it into everyday urban transport. This makes GAC another major
automotive company that sees its future not only on the road but also in the
air.
Did you know that…
- GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Company) is one of China's
largest automotive companies, producing over 2.5 million vehicles annually.
- The Govy AirJet is over 90% carbon fiber—lighter and more
durable than aluminum.
- The term
"low-altitude mobility" refers to flights at altitudes of up to 300
meters, a new segment of future urban transport."
Expected price of GAC “AirJet” is about 200 000 dollars.
