“R. Žemaitaitis, leader of the ‘Dawn’ party (*Aušriečiai*),
holds a firm position. In his view, Lithuania should not focus on universal
conscription or the expansion of traditional military infrastructure.
‘Universal conscription is absurd here; it is more of a political stunt,’ R.
Žemaitaitis told ELTA.
According to the politician, greater attention should be
paid to military training in schools, as well as instruction in physics,
chemistry, biology, and robotics. He argues that technological skills are
crucial in modern warfare; therefore, people who might be unable to perform
standard military service due to health or physical limitations could still
contribute to national defense.
‘We are living by the Soviet ideology of universal
conscription—it is a communist, Soviet mentality that dictates we must build
barracks and implement universal conscription,’ stated R. Žemaitaitis. In his
opinion, the main problem is not funding or infrastructure, but the
politicians' own attitude toward modern warfare.”
