Brexit, the trade war and a hobbled World Trade Organization shows that the West wants more resilience in the West at expense of efficiency. How do you get that? You get that by preserving skills and jobs in the West. How you can preserve the skills when the work force overseas is so irresistibly cheap? You force the companies exploiting this cheap overseas work force to share the spoils of this exploitation. You use high custom duties to get some serious money from the companies. You invest that money into educating your home work force and developing robotics.
