Oh, why are we so poor in today's Lithuania?

"At the end of 2020, the average salary in Lazdijai district amounted to only 752.90 euros" in hand ", in the prosperous resort of Druskininkai - even less, only 729.30 euros, in Varėna district - 709.6. At the same time, the average salary of Vilnius residents reached 1,082. 30 euros and the gap from the province was widening.

Even in the most remote parts of Lithuania, I have met great entrepreneurs, for whom their employees are like family members. And not in the sense that it interferes with their private lives and does not pay overtime. Unfortunately, their examples do not inspire a change in the majority of small employers who brought habits from the wild 90s and earlier. These entrepreneurs survive only because the buildings privatized at the end of the Soviet era had not yet been demolished, and employees who had been enslaved for minimum wages for several decades are accustomed to being oppressed and eager to endure in some way until retirement. Trade unions away from the big cities have never tried to expand their activities, and local political party branches, whether they are called left-wing or right-wing, are just clubs of local entrepreneurs who have not lost influence for three decades. Attracting new investors to the region is simply not good for them, as it can increase the cost of labor.

It must be admitted that the one thousand euros a month earned in Vilnius is also incompatible with high, European level, Lithuanian prices. It is necessary to either emigrate or change the order in Lithuania fundamentally.
