"In the
global technological race, artificial intelligence is becoming a new weapon.
China and the US are competing for dominance, and Poland is at a crossroads:
develop modern technologies or remain the leader in agricultural exports? Does
the US decision to limit our access to chips condemn us to the second league?
If a global conflict is already underway, we are witnessing
successive salvos fired by the parties that are clashing in the struggle for
world domination. But these are not cannon shots, these are not tests of new
ballistic missiles or laser weapons.
What is the breakthrough with DeepSeek and Alibaba's Qwen?
These salvos are information about subsequent models of
artificial intelligence being put into use. When the West had not yet recovered
from the shock of the debut of the Chinese DeepSeek, which was supposed to
perform better than previous models created in the US, the Alibaba holding
entered the scene, which supposedly presented an even better model called Qwen.
And this despite the fact that China was subject to sanctions by the US
administration and it was not possible to legally export the most modern chips
used to create artificial intelligence to it. And now the whole world is
wondering how it is possible that the Chinese have built what they have just
shown without being noticed. Or maybe they did not show something they have
created that has even better parameters...
The
groundbreaking Chinese artificial intelligence tool DeepSeek shows that the
sanctions imposed by the US on the Middle Kingdom are too late and have limited
effect. This is very bad news for Donald Trump.
As with any new fashion, the announcements of the creators
of DeepSeek that they spent only $6 million on it and that it is several orders
of magnitude more efficient in terms of energy consumption should be treated
with a certain amount of caution.
Vladimir Putin is right: whoever achieves dominance over
artificial intelligence will gain dominance over the world
One thing is certain, however: the global competition between
the West and China depends on who wins the race for artificial intelligence.
This is where the dispute over dominance, not just technological dominance,
will be decided.
Vladimir
Putin is right when he says that artificial intelligence is like a nuclear
weapon and the country that wins in this field will rule the world.
Alibaba has just released its latest model of artificial
intelligence, which can control computers and phones. In the shadow of
DeepSeek, AI has been launched, which is to be an alternative to the best
American solutions.
There is also no doubt that the race taking place today will
determine the role of individual countries, not only for the coming years, but
also for decades. It will decide who will be the creator of the most modern technologies
that will govern civilizational, economic and everyday life development, who
will be in the second league and who will remain on the complete periphery. And
that is why our sense of national dignity was so strongly affected by the US
decision to include Poland on the list of countries that will not be able to
enjoy the import of the most technologically advanced chips.
American embargo on chips for Poland. Why are we talking so
little about artificial intelligence in the election campaign?
However, what is most striking is the fact that although
internet forums and social media platforms are full of discussions about the
American embargo on chips for Poland, about new technologies, DeepSeek and
Alibaba, these are threads that are almost absent from the ongoing election
campaign. And yet our future depends on what place we will have in the global
race for artificial intelligence. What is Rafał Trzaskowski, Karol Nawrocki,
Szymon Hołownia, Sławomir Mentzen, Magdalena Biejat's idea for development in this
area? Why does such a fundamental problem occupy so little space in their
speeches?
Our place on
the list of second-class countries with limited access to American chips should
make us realize that for the countries from the core of the West we will never
be their equals. The question is where will this awareness take us.
Recently, the candidates were bidding to oppose the EU
agreement with Mercosur, which may hit poultry exporters. Yes, it is great that
we are the leader in chicken and raspberry exports. But today we are deciding
whether the only thing we have to offer will be agricultural products or
whether we will take part in dividing the global economic cake, which will be
based on new technologies."
