“With Nausėda setting a goal to increase the country's
defense funding to 5-6 percent of the gross domestic product in the future,
economists and experts are considering how to collect this money. It is said
that collecting 12 billion from tax increases alone is mission impossible, but
it is also mentioned that new taxes will be needed, and the issue of
eliminating benefits is especially relevant.
4 thousand euros from each resident
In order to increase the country's defense funding, 12-13
billion euros will be needed over several years, President Gitanas Nausėda
calculated, but according to Luminor Bank economist Žygimantas Mauricas, this
is an extremely large number for Lithuania.
“The percentages are considerable. You can always calculate
that if Lithuania has 3 million inhabitants, divided by each, it would be
approximately 4 thousand Eur per capita or three average salaries,"
he said in the Delfi program "Business Topic."
