"Remigijus Žemaitaitis continues his tour of Lithuania.
In meetings with voters, he focuses most of his attention and criticism on
President Gitanas Nausėda and the decision to increase defense funding. R.
Žemaitaitis calls it a "scam" and "the height of morondom."
He explains that G. Nausėda will supposedly take people's deposits. R.
Žemaitaitis also offers his own solutions on where to get the money - to lift
sanctions on the transit of Belarusian fertilizers.
In some places, fewer people gather, in some places there is
a shortage of chairs - like in Radviliškis.
While there is a break between sessions and the Seimas
meetings are not taking place, R. Žemaitaitis is touring Lithuania.
"We voted for him, we fully support him," said the
interviewee.
"Support, rejoice. They say they want to throw him out,
we will not let them," said another interviewee.
"We want him to succeed, to wish him that he really
does not give up," – the woman assured.
R. Žemaitaitis’s main topic is money for defense.
“5–6 percent of the gross domestic product is allocated for
defense,” R. Žemaitaitis explained during the meeting.
When the cameras are not filming, R. Žemaitaitis does not
wrap himself in cotton wool. LNK Žinios obtained an audio recording of one such
meeting.
“I understood that this was a scam. I immediately understood
that this was a pure attempt to involve people, to intimidate,” R. Žemaitaitis
said during the meeting.
President Gitanas Nausėda announced that political leaders
had agreed to increase the defense budget to 5–6 percent a couple of weeks ago,
after the State Defense Council. R. Žemaitaitis’ coalition partner, Prime
Minister Gintautas Paluckas, and other politicians also participated in this
council. R. Žemaitaitis’ criticism is directed at the president.
“There was a president in Lithuania who allocated 31–33
percent of the budget to defense. Who was he? Smetona, who ran away across the
stream,” said R. Žemaitaitis during the meeting.
“As they said, Žemaitaitis is screaming, but I say, I will
scream even louder, because what we are doing is the height of morondom,” said
R. Žemaitaitis during the meeting.
R. Žemaitaitis tells people that in order to achieve such
percentages, VAT, excise duties and other taxes should be increased.
“The point is, that’s all. Everything, the price
automatically goes up. When the price goes up, what does Lithuania become?
Uncompetitive,” R. Žemaitaitis indicated during the meeting.
He says he will not support it.
“In the second place, I hear people say, we will use
second-tier pensions, right,” R. Žemaitaitis assured during the meeting.
Also, that the president wants to take people’s deposits.
“When he shot, I sat down as it should be. He proposed... to
nationalize the deposits. They say: we will take deposits from you, maybe
villagers, you don’t understand, I will use your money,” – R. Žemaitaitis spoke
during the meeting.
“What, has another nationalization started? 1939, 1941?” –
R. Žemaitaitis said during the meeting.
“No, I am not intimidating. I am saying that the
schizophrenia that has been unleashed on Lithuania must come out and say that
there is no threat of war. Stop intimidating those people,” – R. Žemaitaitis
said.
But, according to R. Žemaitaitis, “if we really want to go
to war” – he makes his own proposals. One of them is to lift sanctions on the
transit of Belarusian fertilizers through Lithuania.
“Then we allow transit, we earn money. What do we do? We
invest the money we earn in the army, in defense,” – R. Žemaitaitis explained
during the meeting.
“That is very good. The sanctions are completely useless. The Belarusian
sanctions package has turned against us – Lithuania. Russia continues to
conduct trade relations with America,” said the leader of Nemuno Aušra.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys has said that
trying to scare people with social instability is a harmful activity and has
considered what effect R. Žemaitaitis’s speech has on people. According to G.
Paluckas, “Remigijus speaks sharply, but there is really no actual effect.”
“We voted for Žemaitaitis, we voted, not enough of us though. We need to
vote more. Not for the social democrats, where they lied. "My wife cursed
Blinkevičiūtė," the meeting participant said."
Most Lithuanian politicians feel unsteady at the trough, as
in many other places in Europe. Therefore, they try to portray themselves as
very militant in order to attract our attention and prolong their pleasure.
Hence the 5 percent, 6 percent, 100 percent, boom boom, hurrah...
