Skvernelis on the Lithuanian rulers' conflict with China: they don't care about our business and what people make a living from

"We have consulted with partners and we will not develop the company in Lithuania because of this China scandal. We are focusing on relocating the company to another country. Moving the whole business out of Lithuania. "It is no problem to move this type of business to any other European country. Then the taxes will not be paid to Lithuania, but we will support the economies of other countries," said Saulius Skvernelis, the leader of the Democratic Group on behalf of Lithuania.

Skvernelis said the Lithuanian government had not thought about the indirect consequences of the sanctions. "They don't care about our business at all, they don't care what people will live on, what taxes will be paid to the budget. It is important for them that they have acted with dignity for themselves," - said S. Skvernelis.

There are also a number of challenges for Lithuanian products due to the fact that China is calling on international companies to sever ties with Lithuania. "As far as I can see now, less co-operation will be gradually encouraged,” - said R. Radvilavičius. The Lithuanian automotive industry produces components for the largest car manufacturers, so new suppliers are being sought in the event of supply chain disruptions or customs problems. "We are receiving requests. They are trying to find out the situation themselves, as they have already received negative information from the major producers,” - said Giedrius Valuckas, President of the Association of Lithuanian Free Economic Zones.

However, it is worrying that investors are turning away from Lithuania in disputes with China. "Those investors who have exports and sales to China are immediately looking for an investment opportunity. As for those investors, we are really losing that part of the investors," - G. Valuckas assured. The Baltic automotive parts cluster estimates that up to ten European companies have suspended communications with Lithuania indefinitely. According to unofficial information, Volkswagen, a giant of car production, wants to fire Lithuanian suppliers."
