"Czeslaw
Siekierski, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland in the
government of Donald Tusk, stated that the ban on importing Ukrainian grain to
Poland will remain until the relevant rules are drawn up at the level of the
European Union.
"We must
maintain the embargo until we agree on terms to replace it. I think that a good
solution would be to introduce transport licensing when using transit routes
outside of Poland," the minister said on TVP Info.
According to him,
Ukraine should export grain through other routes than through Poland and
Europe.
"Because
there is always, even during transit transportation, a certain risk that part
of this grain or other agricultural production will remain on Polish
territory," the Polish minister explained.
On the other
hand, he emphasized that Poland wants to help Ukraine, but it "needs norms
regarding quotas and transition periods" and this issue should be resolved
together with the European Union.
Unilateral
restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain and many other agricultural
products were introduced by Poland in September, when the embargo at the EU
level expired."
