As soon as the Polish authorities saw that much higher taxes were being collected due to higher prices, they immediately decided to reduce taxes to make it easier for the population to survive those higher prices. Businesses supported this initiative by the Polish authorities. In doing so, the Poles showed themselves and others that they were all going through a difficult time together. Such confidence in government and business is important in a time of crisis.
The Lithuanian government and business also benefit more from higher prices, but do not want to share the surplus with the population. Confidence in such government and such business - zero. This is dangerous for the state during the crisis.
