"Robert
Habeck, Germany 's economy minister, has spoken out against Russia' s energy
embargo, saying it could jeopardize social cohesion in his country.
Germany receives
about half of its coal and gas imports from Russia, as well as a third of its
oil needs.
Habeck, who is
also Germany's vice-chancellor, said on Thursday that his country needed to
"get rid of Russia's energy imports," but acknowledged that it would
take time.
Mr Habeck told
reporters in Berlin that the government was working on a number of measures to
speed up energy independence, including securing new suppliers and promoting
the use of renewable energy sources.
He did not discuss
the possibility for Germany to extend the life of the three remaining nuclear
power plants, which are scheduled to close this year, but added that the issue
could be considered "if it would help".
According to
Habeck, the government will also consider and develop energy efficiency
measures to reduce demand, and called on the population to contribute. "
Nobody even talks about the danger to social cohesion in
Lithuania. Gabriel Landsbergis' ears are modestly kept close to his skull as he approaches the
majestic Queen Martha - this is the entire social cohesion of Lithuania.
