"Chairman of the
Seimas National Security and Defense Committee (NSGK) Arvydas Pocius states
that, in the assessment of the State Security Department (VSD), the rhetoric of
candidate Eduard Vaitkaus, who tried his luck in the elections, does not pose a
threat to national security.
"A brief
assessment was submitted that the statements do not pose a threat to our
security," informed A. Pocius.
According to him, the
statements of E. Vaitkaus should be considered more as election rhetoric.
"After all, we
are a democratic state and freedom of speech is guaranteed to all people.
And
here it can be seen as an election show, mobilizing a certain audience of
voters," said the chairman of NSGK.
ELTA reminds that, at
a meeting held a few weeks ago, the NSGK decided to ask the VSD to evaluate the
statements of E. Vaitkaus, who tried his luck in the presidential elections and
was allegedly accused of spreading a pro-Kremlin narrative.
E. Vaitkus, who came
in fifth place in the presidential elections, assures that he will run for the
Seimas in the fall.
The politician
received 7.31 percent
of votes in the first round of the presidential election."
