"Those planning to plant strawberries this year will be
able to do so soon, but first of all, there are several rules that are
important to follow. Sandra Stanislavičė from Vilnius grows different varieties
of strawberries, so she has advice on how to properly prepare the soil and
plant seedlings so that you can enjoy the harvest this year.
Strawberries should not be planted where old strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes, where the meadow was, because the same
diseases and pests remained in the soil.
Strawberries are
planted every 30 centimeters apart.
There are varieties, such as Lambada, with few mustaches and
small spells, so it is possible to plant such seedlings every 20 centimeters.
There are varieties, such as Malwina, which are expanding, so they can be
planted every 40 cm.
Plant only one seedling in the pit. Not two, not three. Yes,
the seedling looks very funny at first, but the strawberry will grow into a
stump in a few months. Multiple seedlings in one pit will certainly not yield
more berries, on the contrary, will yield less than being planted away from
each other.
Strawberries do not need any manure or yeast, otherwise
there will be a lot of leaves instead of berries.
Strawberry -
cultivated wild strawberry: where did you see that anybody fertilized the lowlands in
the wilderness? Strawberries are planted from April, and
frozen seedlings even until July. To the question whether they will not freeze,
I answer: A strawberry perennial plant wintering in Lithuania, how can it
freeze in spring? By the way, the frozen seedlings will give the first harvest
this year, in June.”
