""Who gave
up the nuclear weapon? Everyone? No, only Ukraine. Who is at conflict today?
Ukraine. That's why it is now the way it is. I said during the conversation
with Donald Trump: "What could be the solution? Or Ukraine will have a
nuclear weapon and in that case it will have something to defend itself, or it
needs some kind of alliance." Apart from NATO, there are currently no
other effective alliances," the Ukrainian publication Hromadske quoted V.
Zelensky as saying.
The head of Ukraine
added that Kyiv chose the North Atlantic Alliance over nuclear weapons.
“I think Donald Trump
heard me then. He said: "Your arguments are valid," said V. Zelensky.
According to
"Bild" analyst Julian Röpke, V. Zelensky's statement shocked Western
journalists. He said that a few months ago, a high-ranking Ukrainian official,
speaking to "Bild" and several politicians belonging to a narrow
circle, indicated that Ukraine will not settle if Russian forces storm Kyiv a
second time. "Bild" announced that Ukraine is seriously considering
restoring its nuclear arsenal.
"We have both
material and knowledge. If the order is given, we will have the first bomb in
just a few weeks. "The West should think less about Russia's red lines and
much more about our red lines," the Ukrainian official is reported to have
said.
Oleh Zhdanov, a
Ukrainian military expert, believes that Ukraine has the scientific and
technological potential to develop various types of nuclear weapons, both
tactical and strategic.
"The most
important thing is that we have raw materials. Thus, Ukraine, if the
appropriate political decision is made, can become a country that runs a closed
production cycle - from uranium mining to the development of nuclear
weapons," the Unian portal quotes this expert."
