Chinese sanctions have left a US manufacturer that supplies drones to Ukraine without parts

"Skydio, the largest US drone manufacturer and supplier of this technology to the Ukrainian army, is facing a shortage of production components. The supply chain crisis hit the company after Beijing imposed sanctions, banning Chinese companies from supplying batteries needed to make Skydio drones.

This is reported by the Financial Times.

The drone maker is looking for alternative suppliers, but has also turned to the Joe Biden administration for help. Skydio CEO Adam Bry met with US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell last week and held discussions with other senior officials at the White House.

American officials worry that China is disrupting U.S. supply chains and, at the same time, Ukraine's supply of drones used for reconnaissance.

"This is a defining moment for the drone industry," Bry wrote in a note to clients, also obtained by the Financial Times. "If there was ever any doubt, this action makes it clear that the Chinese government is using supply chains as a weapon to put their own interests ahead of ours." This is an attempt to eliminate America's leading drone company and increase the world's dependence on Chinese drone manufacturers."

China applied the sanctions after Skydio signed a drone supply contract with Taiwan's Fire Safety Agency.

This case is indeed worrying for companies dependent on Chinese suppliers.”

Especially for the companies that buy for us underwear. What will it look like if we stay without underwear. It's scary to think about.
