There are three competing explanations for the behavior of Lithuanian bureaucrats towards migrants

Some commentators explain that migrants are criminals trying to steal the fruits of our hard work, so migrants need to be shot at the border. A lot is mixed here - the cultural backwardness of the last European pagans, racism, contempt for human life.

The other two approaches are typical for European bureaucrats - one, and for Lithuanian bureaucrats - the other:

"I cannot give carte blanche (complete freedom) to everything that can or has happened on the Lithuanian border, I am very concerned about reports of rejection, but in general I have to say that Lithuania, in my opinion, is really trying to comply with the law, trying to do what it can and is transparent," said Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, in an interview with BNS on Monday.

Lithuanian officials take the position that their tactics on the border with Belarus should not be considered as repulsion of migrants. They emphasize that by not allowing visitors to Lithuania and returning them to Belarus, migrants are offered an alternative to legally applying for asylum at a border checkpoint or at the Lithuanian Embassy in Minsk."

The position of Lithuanian bureaucrats (officials) is naive and will not stand the test of the courts. Lithuania pays large compensations for such mistakes of our bureaucrats, but does not want to learn from this experience, trying to please those voters who want to shoot people, to stay in the elected office for longer. Here in Lithuania so far everyone seeks with impunity only for the benefit of themselves at the expense of the nation.
