"The rising prices of
fertilizers, raw materials and energy resources may significantly increase the
prices of new harvest vegetables, so the locals will no longer buy them, and
the stagnant logistics of the operation to protect the Donbass will disrupt
their exports," - warns the director of the Lithuanian Vegetable Growers
Association.
“How much is the potential price
of vegetables? There is still 20%, maybe another 30%. The local user will no longer
buy. We will grow it, and if not locals, who will buy it?
Transportation is stalled. It will be necessary to focus more on the
internal market,” - Zofija Cironkienė discussed in the Seimas debate on food
security on Monday.
"We see that most of the
costs will have to be borne by the grower himself. I don't know if it is
moral to turn to the government for help now," - she said.
According to Z. Cironkienė, the
price of electricity for vegetable growers increased 6 times, fuel - about 40%,
fertilizers - up to 20 times, wooden containers - twice, plastic, cardboard
packaging - 20-40%, labor - 10-15%.
According to her, last year due
to unproductive year vegetable prices rose by 30-40%.
According to Z. Cironkienė,
Lithuania grows enough potatoes, beets, at the same time carrots, cabbage, onions -
"on the border". "
