"Everyone, including those commenting on the events in
Ukraine, drew attention to President V. Zelensky's decision to temporarily
suspend Prosecutor General I. Venediktova and Head of the Security Service I.
Bakanova while the investigation is underway.
What was surprising was not the fact that both persons are
trusted by V. Zelenski, but the fact that the actions of the employees recorded
in the Security Service are equated with state treason, - 60 suspects, 600
cases of various qualifications and 28 officers expected to be fired, probably
also for negligence at work. Explaining the decision, V. Zelenskis added: this
is just the beginning. Maybe it's worth asking - the beginning of what?
Certainly not only the audit of services. Frankly, since the
beginning of the sanctions on Russia, I expected a similar message from the Ukraine, because for 30 years there have been no
cardinal reforms in the security structures of this country, no fundamental
change of officials, except for changes related to age and pensions.
A motley crew remains to this day, and some of them support
Russia. Of course, what has been announced is not shocking news, but
nevertheless, the mentioned numbers are not small, and in fact may be much
higher. The Russian intelligence network in Ukraine is extensive and not
necessarily recruited individuals are concentrated in power structures. They
exist in political circles, not to mention various levels of government
depending on the region. Finally, it is among the population. And it is not
necessary to recruit everyone, there are volunteers.
At the beginning of the operation, it was announced that the
citizens of Ukraine absolutely support the defense of the state, and only with the exceptions staged by Russian propagandists, the
"liberators" are greeted with flowers. The reality is different, the
word "absolutely" has to be replaced by "most",
"majority", and in the future it may be even different.
Objectively, Ukraine is divided, but those who are against
its current government do not necessarily fit into the concept of a "fifth
column". The threat to the state has leveled the opposites, but this does
not mean that they will not surface again. The reasons for the confrontations
are various and not all are determined by Moscow's influence. Ukraine is
energetically and emotionally forming as a nation, and its ideologues have
their own attitude towards Russia, Russians, language, including anecdotes with
a specific tone.
I remember the Maidan days, when I watched the events for
hours. Kyiv was boiling, smoking, and in one LRT report, a Lithuanian woman who
had been living there for several years, interviewed from Donetsk, said that
everything is calm there, people do not feel sorry for V. Yanukovych, who is
corrupt with the whole entourage, they are just waiting to see how the events
in the center will end.
And after a few days, when interviewed again, the same woman
explained that the sparks arose after the law on speech appeared in the Rada,
but was not adopted. Rumors have spread that Russian speakers will be expelled
from the country. Personally, I think that the brief appearance of such a
project in the Rada was a big strategic mistake. It put a stick in the hands
of Kremlin propagandists. And it continues to be used for eight years.
In my subjective belief, without preparing to advise the
current Ukrainian authorities, unfortunately, the opportunity is always given
to even beat with that stick, of course, next to all other real means of
beating. Here, the representative of Ukraine in the autonomous republic of
Crimea, T. Tasheva, predicts that Russians who illegally (without explaining
what this means) came to the territory of Crimea, will have to leave it of
their own free will.
And if there is no such desire? In addition, in T.Tasheva's
opinion, certain (?) lustration measures should be applied not only to the
residents of Russia, but also to the residents of Ukraine who have lived there
for eight years. Do you know how the lustration mechanism should work? Would
those who lived for eight years stand in line to tell what they did during that
time? Resisted in their mind? It's hard to prove. They didn't ask for any help
from the government - not even economic, household help? And the neighbor knows
- he asked. And the testimony of the neighbor usually becomes decisive in this
type of lustration. In the days of Stalinism and even a little after it, an
employee, not being any KGB agent, would complain to a co-worker just because
the latter was first in line to get an apartment.
I came across a
report in the Ukrainian media that a hundred euros will be paid to anyone who
will provide information about traitors.
True or not, the world is equal in this matter. What does an
ordinary resident of Crimea think when reading T.Tasheva's opinion? It is more
or less understandable why the head of the Security Service was suspended or
dismissed. But why the general prosecutor, who energetically supported V.
Zelenski in the public space?
The answer is simple - there are many cases and no verdicts.
And it is clear to the student that evidence is needed for a verdict, which
sometimes takes a lot of time to collect. And who decides quickly?
"Troikas."
It goes without saying that V. Zelenskis wants to quickly
and clearly show the public that traitors will receive the deserved assessment
and punishment. Probably not public, since the latter are practiced mainly in
Sharia-ruled states. If the process of punishment for treason will be rushed,
based on dubious or even no evidence, and in slow traffic, innocent people will
also suffer, the result may be the opposite of what was expected. A part of the
society, together with those working in the management structures, will decide
according to the known historical experience - aha, repressions and purges will
begin. And there will be those who will use the word "cleaning" with
chilling meanings. Therefore, I think that the news about betrayals announced
without a court decision, and even from the mouth of the head of state, is
hasty. But I repeat, this is not advice on how to behave."
Executions without proper trial have a horrible history in Eastern Europe:
"Poles were also executed in Auschwitz on the basis of
“special treatment”—people regarded as a threat to the Third Reich were
sentenced to death without trial. Gestapo headquarters in a given province or
district sent a request to the Reich Main Security Office in such instances,
and Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler made the final decision. It is highly
probable that the majority of Poles who were not registered in the camp were
killed on the basis of “special treatment.”"
