"The Kremlin has published a list of 22 countries with which
Russia currently has direct air links. There is no European country on the
list, apart from Turkey, which lies on two continents. There are also no
countries in North America, continental Africa, or the Antipodes. There is one
country in South America. and one Central American, and eight former Soviet
republics. The presence of Israel on the list is surprising.
“There are direct flights from Russia to 22 countries:
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, Egypt, Israel, India, Iran,
Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Laos, Maldives, United Arab Emirates,
Seychelles, Thailand, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Sri
Lanka,” a representative of the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) explained for the RIA Novosti agency. Both passenger and cargo planes fly to
these countries.
Russian airlines currently fly to a limited number of
foreign airports due to sanctions by Western countries. The EU has banned the
supply of civil aircraft and spare parts to Russia, and has obliged lessors to
terminate contracts with Russian airlines. Aircraft maintenance and insurance
services were also banned. The European Union, the United States, Canada and
many other countries have closed the skies to Russian aircraft.
The Federal Air Transport Agency has recommended that
Russian airlines whose aircraft are on foreign registers suspend international
flights in order to avoid arrest or detention of a foreign-registered aircraft
owned by foreign lessors.
On the Kremlin's order, planes leased by Russian airlines,
i.e. about 80 percent of of the Russian air fleet, were entered into the
Russian register, i.e. de facto appropriated.
Indian carrier Air India has garnered nothing but praise in
recent weeks. After the line was taken over by the TATA conglomerate, the
quality of services improved significantly. And the owner just introduced new
regulations. The point is that the line under the new management will change
completely.
Many countries do not want to accept machines from Russian
lines for fear of failure, lack of spare parts and required inspections. The
Russians have already dismantled several Boeings and Airbuses. For example,
Turkey warned Moscow that it could close its airports to machines without the
required certificates and inspections.
From November 1, all Russian airlines switched to domestic
reservation systems - Leonardo (developed by Russian companies Sirena and
Rostech) or TAIS (developed by ORS)."
