bank economist Žygymantas Mauricas.
- Food products and fuel are still the most expensive - by a
third. Twice as fast as the entire European Union (EU). Why is life so
expensive in Lithuania?
- Lithuania has become expensive in recent years, as prices
here have grown significantly faster than the EU average. Food prices are of
particular concern. The annual growth is about 34 percent. In the EU, it is
also high, but it reaches 17%. So it is likely that we will reach the EU
average in terms of price level this year.
So the prices of drinks and food
will soon be more expensive than in the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom
and only by a few percent lower than in Germany, France and Italy.
- And what is the salary difference compared to Lithuania,
so that we can imagine?
- The wage gap reaches more than two times. In Lithuania, we
already have almost 1,200 EUR in hand, and in Western European countries - from
2.5 to 3 thousand. Eur. in hand.
- If they do not stop the rise in prices, especially food
prices, what awaits Lithuania?
- Lithuania will become expensive rather than rich. This is
a huge challenge for the country in terms of competitiveness.
It will be more difficult to attract and retain employees.
Well, if we continue this price increase, we will already
reach the EU average this year, and next year we will even exceed it. A
psychologically unpleasant border - the Rubicon - will be crossed. We will
become an unattractive country neither for emigrants who might want to return
to Lithuania, nor for migrants from third countries, because everyone will see
that life here is more expensive than in other Western European countries. Nor
in the same Poland."
What you work for, that's what you get. If you looked around for
it, you would work for twice or three times more, and you would live better. No one else is at
fault here. Stupid is getting beaten even in the church.
