“The world was ending four weeks ago. Democrats and the media were singing in harmony from the shutdown hymnal: Americans were going hungry. Planes were falling from the sky. Healthcare costs were about to bankrupt your friends and neighbors. Republicans were to blame for all of it.
Then there was an election, the Democrats won, and the choir went silent -- almost as if orchestrated by a conductor lowering his baton. Be honest: When was the last time you heard someone mention the life-or-death issue of extending enhanced ObamaCare subsidies?
Conservatives have known for decades who pays the piper.
Democrats call the tune and the media plays it.
The choir is singing a new song now. It's called "Pete Hegseth Will Be Tried at the Hague." It's a tricky little ditty that likely required some rehearsal.
Last week, seemingly out of nowhere, a bunch of Democratic officeholders with military or intelligence experience made a video warning members of the military not to follow what they called "unlawful orders." This was a discussion that no one was having before the video was released. Then, serendipity be blessed, the Washington Post published a scoopy story over the weekend all but accusing Mr. Hegseth of issuing illegal orders to kill helpless, probably surrendering drug runners hanging off the sides of burning boats in the Caribbean.
That isn't journalism. It's tee-ball. The best part about it, from the point of view of the Democratic-media cartel, is that anyone who notices the game and points it out sounds slightly crazy.
Do you realize how impossible it would be to pull off a media plant like that? Are you telling me that the major newspapers, National Public Radio, cable giants and big social-media companies got together to amplify a story? Do you realize how kooky that makes you sound?
To borrow and butcher the old saying about paranoia, just because you sound crazy doesn't mean you are. Sometimes the world is arrayed against you in exactly the cynically manipulative and purposeful manner you imagine it is.
For those who still don't seem to get it: The quintessence of Donald Trump's appeal to conservatives is that he is immune to the narrative-shaping power of the long and cozy alliance between Democrats and the media. He refuses to accept its assumptions about the limits of acceptable political behavior. He scribbles outside the lines. He can't be shamed by the collective tut-tutting of news anchors and editorial boards.
All this makes him a hero to those who have long known that the mainstream press and the party of the left are in clear cahoots. When the people on TV tell you over and over again not to believe your lying eyes, you run with relief to the guy who says no, in fact you aren't crazy.
It may not be good for the country to have such a bumptious president. Just as it isn't great to have one political party acting as ventriloquists to the press. But don't make the mistake of thinking Trump supporters are the dummies. They're just enjoying the show.” [1]
