"The
opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) calls on the President,
the Government and the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to "abandon narrow personal ambitions" and agree on strategic foreign policy
goals.
The Social
Democrats are of the opinion that Gabrielius Landsbergis, the head of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, should resign immediately, and that the current
foreign policy "does not meet national interests, creates tensions and divides society".
According to the
LSDP, an agreement between the parliamentary parties could be signed regarding
the strategic directions of foreign policy, which could be initiated by the
head of the country, Gitanas Nausėda.
This is announced
in a party statement on foreign policy issued on Monday.
V. Blinkevičiūtė:
all Lithuanians pay for the caused conflict
LSDP leader Vilija
Blinkevičiūtė, commenting on the statement, says that the foreign policy
pursued by the rulers "has failed in the search for new enemies and areas
of struggle".
"The greatest
value of our foreign policy is to ensure security and economic benefits for the
people of Lithuania. Unfortunately, the unreasonable and unwise actions of the
Government in motivating the conflict with China have caused only harm to the
Lithuanian population and businesses. Not only that, it blew an international
scandal.
The state run by adults
would have secured the support of its closest partners in the European Union
(EU) in the first place, and only then would it have taken action that would
have a major impact on the economy. And their end result is completely
unpredictable. We must all look for a way out of the conflict situation,
because the citizens do not deserve the damage they are suffering and will
suffer as a result of the ongoing conflict,” - says the party chairwoman V.
Blinkevičiūtė.
As reported by the
LSDP Communications Division, the LSDP statement states:
(1) The LSDP calls
on the institutions (President, Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
responsible for foreign policy-making to abandon their narrow personal
ambitions or party interests, not to confuse domestic policy with foreign
policy, to engage in constructive dialogue and agree on strategic foreign
policy objectives, as public disagreements weaken our foreign policy, benefit
our opponents and damage our reputation;
(2) states that
the famous rhetoric of the rulers about the value orientation of foreign policy
does not correspond to the real decisions and actions taken recently;
(3) is convinced
that the opening of a Taiwanese mission in Vilnius, without taking into account
the political risks and economic consequences, did not fully coordinate
concrete actions both domestically and with strategic foreign partners. By
failing to inform and communicate with national partners and business about the
goals and risks of foreign policy, foreign policy makers have created
unnecessary tensions and confronted society;
(4) Considers
that, in the context of extensive consultations with the European Union and the
Western partners, the possibility of renaming of the Taiwanese mission
may also be considered. By signing a Lithuanian communication on the
establishment of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, it
stated that it "recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of
China as the only legitimate government of China and Taiwan as an integral part
of China. The Government of the Republic of Lithuania undertakes not to
establish or promote any official relations with Taiwan."
(5) notes that the
foreign policy-making process must be open and centralized, not divisive.
Decisions must be substantiated and clear to the public, and not based on the
short-term effect of public relations, placing the damage on the shoulders of
the Lithuanian people;
(6) invites the
President of the Republic of Lithuania to initiate the signing of the agreement
between the political parties in the Seimas “On Strategic Directions of Foreign
Policy”. This would maintain the tradition of agreeing on fundamental foreign
policy issues;
(7) calls on the
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, to resign immediately, with the
new leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the situation."
Well, it is amazing how ugly it came out. The Landsbergis' family have once again advertised themselves that they are not ordinary thieves receiving land in the center of Vilnius for one euro, but world-class fighters for the freedom of all the nations of the world. And it is up to us all to pay for this horrible performance.
