"The Russians have found a way to protect themselves against
the real nightmare that Ukrainian drones pose to their troops and have started
equipping soldiers and small tracked
vehicles with special personal protection systems.
Not only large motorized units gain protection against
drones, but even individual soldiers
Ukrainian drone attacks are causing problems in the ranks of
Russians. Such remotely controlled aircraft can effectively hit enemy units by
dropping explosives or flying straight into military vehicles or individual
soldiers and exploding. As a result, tanks or cars with additional armor, or
rather a special net or cage protecting against air attacks, appear more and
more often on the front.
Drones are a key weapon in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict
So far, however, the soldiers who fight our eastern
neighbor have remained defenseless against the new drone technology used by the
Ukrainians. However, this is changing. Moscow has just released an innovative
tracked vehicle to the front to help fight drones. It's an unmanned robot
called Wall-E. The machine, named after the life-saving robot from the popular
Disney animation, is the first electronic warfare system with a tracked
platform developed by Russians. This equipment is devoid of offensive weapons,
but is equipped with antennas and a system that jams radio and GPS signals.
There is one goal - to interrupt the connection between attacking drones and
their operators.
As reported by RIA Novosti, the Wall-E system underwent
field tests in June. The vehicle is intended to provide protection for ground
troops - its battery allows for many hours of operation and maintaining an
active electronic combat system against unmanned aerial vehicles. This creates
a sort of invisible dome that renders reconnaissance drones and kamikazes
useless. Rebovet, the manufacturer of this equipment, ensures that the system
can suppress communication with drones within a radius of up to 300 meters.
The soldier's backpack will drown out the drones
Individual soldiers also receive similar, but personal
systems. These are special backpacks that interfere with connection with
drones. The so-called Jammers, equipped with antennas, are worn on their backs
by more and more frontline fighters - both Russians and Ukrainians. This mobile
device is difficult to track and allows users to interrupt the first-person
view (FPV) UAV's connection to its controller. As a result, the drone falls
approximately 250 meters from its intended target. However, such backpacks are
not cheap - a single set costs the equivalent of over PLN 30,000 zloty (6,953.54 Euro).
The
system can only operate for an hour on a single charge. Soldiers use, among
others: Tuman and BlackZone devices, which neutralize the commercial Chinese
DJI Phantom series drones, which are so popular on the front."
