"If Russia breaks through the front and Kyiv asks to
send troops to Ukraine, Lithuania would negotiate with allies about this
decision, says Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.
"We would talk to allies and partners about what it
looks like, and we would talk to Ukraine about what it looks like. I will
remind you that after the Paris summit, when President Macron, who also invited
the Lithuanian president, talked about the initiative to expand its military
presence in Ukraine in various forms, Lithuania did not rule out that
possibility," the minister told LRT television.
"If there will be such a question - I have no doubt that
the Lithuanian flag will be in Ukraine," he noted.
In addition, the head of the country's diplomacy emphasized
that this would be an opportunity for the to show the USA that Lithuania is not only using the guarantees provided, but also
contributing to the security of the region.
"In the same way, now we need to talk about what it
would be, how it would look, resisting the position that is very clear,
specific, and also sent to the US administration in the future - Lithuania is
also a provider of security in the region, not just a recipient," said K.
Budrys.
"We are not just asking: give us here, deploy and so
on. We are actively contributing not only through diplomatic means, but also
through other means to ensuring security," he added."
