According to the latest data, about 653 thousand people (22.6 percent) live below the poverty line in the country. This is indeed one of the worst indicators in the European Union.
Where does the real problem lie?
The majority of poverty statistics are formed due to the income gap of several specific, vulnerable groups of society:
• Old-age pensioners, whom we will all become: As many as 43.3 percent. of seniors are at risk of poverty, because the average pension remains below the poverty line.
• Unemployed: The risk of poverty in this group reaches as much as 62 percent.
• Single people: Single parents and seniors living alone make up the majority of those living in poverty.
