OpenWorker is a free, open-source local desktop AI agent launched by AI pioneers Andrew Ng and Rohit Prasad. It is an inference-only consumer of models. It connects to your local files and everyday applications to deliver finished work and deliverables rather than just chat transcripts.

 

Key Features

           Outcome-First Delivery: You ask for a specific result (e.g., "Prepare a customer brief" or "Draft a report"), and the tool reads your local files, executes the task step-by-step, and outputs the final document.

           Model Independence: The system is built on aisuite, a unified LLM library. This allows you to bring your own API keys for cloud models like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini.

 

You can also use Ollama to run fully open-weight models locally.

 

     Local-First Privacy: Your conversations, documents, connector credentials, and API keys remain entirely on your local machine. Data only leaves your computer through the specific LLM providers and integrations you explicitly authorize.

 

           Human-in-the-Loop Gating: To prevent unintended consequences, OpenWorker classifies action risks. It pauses and requires explicit human approval before taking active external steps, like sending an email, posting to Slack, or editing a calendar.

           Widespread Integrations: It features over 25 native integrations. It connects with tools like GitHub, Slack, Jira, Notion, Gmail, and Google Calendar. It also supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for easy extensibility.
