“Regarding Scott Atlas's op-ed "The Selfie Generation Is the Baby Boomers' Mistake" (July 10): An even more disturbing barometer of the pulse of the selfie generation is the evolution of the "influencer."
These people have positioned themselves as trendsetters and their followers are infatuated with them as role models. The messaging that emanates from these figures steers people away from the traditional work ethic. Influencers breed narcissistic and egotistical tendencies. The hard work and sweat-on-the-brow mentality has gone by the wayside. Sacrifice and altruism are lost and it becomes all about immediate self-gratification.
