Tesla shows second generation of its humanoid robot Optimus

"Nine months after its initial unveiling, the electric car pioneer presents the second generation of the humanoid robot Optimus, with smoother movements, faster walking, improved sense of touch and lighter weight. Despite advances, Boston Dynamics' "Atlas", now in use at Hyundai, remains a leader.

The electric car pioneer has shown the second generation of its humanoid robot Optimus just nine months after presenting the first variant. Its movements are now much smoother and faster.

In addition, thanks to new sensors, he has more “feeling” in his fingers.

The competitor "Atlas" from Boston Dynamics is a bit better and is now used in the first Hyundai factory for car production. However, the Optimus seems to learn faster, because Atlas was introduced ten years ago and has changed hands several times since then: Google bought the company in 2013 and then passed it on to Softbank in 2017, which lost interest in the robots again four years later handed them over to Hyundai. The Koreans not only use the robots to produce their cars, but also have their robot dog “Spot” patrol as a night watchman.

Elon Musk also wants to use the Optimus in his factories. In the long term, he sees the robots as helpers alongside people, in large numbers and at a price of $20,000 each.

Walking has also improved. The Optimus Bot is a third faster than the previous version. The new Optimus is also said to be 10 percent lighter. Tesla has also apparently improved Optimus's body control and takes the entire body into account when balancing. This also makes squats possible. The Atlas is better here too: it can do a somersault - from a standing position." [1]
