I. Šimonytė says that it is impossible to live normally in the small Lithuanian market, because there is no competition. Let's form the union with the great Poland and live normally again

"I. Šimonytė reacted to the observations that even the goods of the same manufacturer are cheaper in Poland, which applies zero VAT to food products, than in Lithuania, by replying that Lithuanians going to shop in Poland is, despite this, not a mass phenomenon. "It is not mass, because our merchants do not react to it. If it were a mass phenomenon, our merchants would understand that these are their competitors. And if you understand that these are your competitors, you are forced to reduce prices," emphasized I. Šimonytė.

"In Lithuania, competition in this sector, like in some other sectors, is unfortunately low, because Lithuania has a small market," she added.

Speaking about the situation in Poland, the Prime Minister said that we are trying to compare with things that are not very comparable: "With a country that is big, where there is a lot of competition, where there are many big and small players in the market, which has its own currency, the rate of which "floats" in relation to the euro, and etc. I think that comparison is not professional. <...>"

Is the Luxembourg market bigger? After all, it is the cheapest country for consumption, with the highest salaries in the EU! In Luxembourg, people's actions are limited by the requirement to behave decently. In Lithuania, we learned that it doesn't pay to behave decently. We can peel nine skins, that's what we peel. Therefore, we need normal competition to discipline us. Otherwise we will disappear.
