"President Vladimir Putin has previously called the system, which has recently been included in armaments, "insurmountable."
Moscow has introduced a series of new futuristic weapon models in recent years, the development of which is expected to give the country an advantage in arms races with the United States.
Footage distributed by the Ministry of Defense shows the cruise missile being launched from the warship Admiral Gorshkov to a target on the Barents Sea coast in northern Russia. "The Zirkon missile successfully hit the target directly from more than 350 kilometers away. The flight speed was almost 7 machs," - the ministry said in a statement.
Putin introduced this new weapon in February 2019 while reading his annual report. At the time, the Kremlin leader said Zirkon was capable of hitting targets at sea and on land within a radius of 1,000 km, as well as developing a speed of 9 machs. The Ministry of Defense has said it plans to arm surface and submarines with these missiles.
Several Zircon tests were performed in October last year. Putin once said that it was "a great event not only in the lives of our armed forces, but also in the life of the whole of Russia."
Russia has said it is developing several weapons systems to enable it to overcome current defenses. Such systems include the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile and the Burevestnik cruise missile."
Oh, what's shiny over there? Oh, Landsbergis company waves with golden spoons. It is a costly tool (one billion euros a year) for Lithuania, opposing Russia's insurmountable weapons. Gold was a real magic even in the days of alchemists.
