"Cars sunk during last week's floods in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands will now become an easy profit opportunity for dishonest traders. Soon, some of them will be on display in the highly absorbing used car markets in Central and Eastern Europe.
According to the experts of the largest used car dealer in the region - AAA Auto auto center network - in the coming period one or two sellers out of a hundred will try to sell a flood-damaged car in their company's branches. An even greater proportion of such vehicles will be found in new online advertisements, where they do not have to be technically inspected.
It can also be expected that some of the flooded cars will be quickly resold to third countries and from there imported to Poland to mask the fact that they come from flood-affected areas.
In cars prepared for sale, traces of flooding are well masked. Upholstery and armchairs are replaced, the musty smell is removed. Only a thorough check of hard-to-reach places, such as inside the door, behind the seals or under the dashboard, or the corrosion on the seat guides, suspension and steering elements that appears in younger cars, allow you to discover the flood past."
