You never know who is sleeping with whom, therefore in Lithuania you do not know who will convict you and for what what

"As Lietuvos Rytas wrote last year, the special relations between D. Žalimas and I. Danėlienė began to be discussed shortly after the latter started working in the Constitutional Court. The head of the court then explained that he had chosen the chancellor from three candidates, giving preference to I. Danėlienė, who allegedly stood out for her professional competence, quick orientation, demands, etc. I.Danėlienė came from the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania in 2006. There I.Danėlienė worked with the former wife of D.Žalimas Skirgaile Žalimienė for several years, where the latter now serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania. Žalimienė was divorced when I. Danėlienė started to lead not only the Chancellory of the Constitutional Court but also  the President D.Žalimas. True, D. Žalimas tried to deny it and kept hiding the relationship. He never officially declared close ties with his subordinate and even when he went on business trips with her, he pretended that they were not a couple. As Lietuvos Rytas wrote earlier, they went on business trips together quite often, and even comic situations occurred during such trips. One well-known lawyer of the capital said that he had met D. Žalimas and I. Danėlienė in a Polish hotel. The lawyer laughed that the President of the Constitutional Court, avoiding a meeting with him, covered his face with a briefcase and hurriedly dived out of the restaurant without even finishing breakfast. However, last year it became clear why D.Žalimas and I.Danėlienė kept hiding the relationship

Viktor Pranckietis, the then Speaker of the Seimas, nominated I. Danėlienė, a little-known lawyer who resigned from the position of Chancellor at the beginning of last year as a judge of the Constitutional Court. If the Seimas approved I. Danėlienė's candidacy, she would have replaced D. Žalimas in court. However, the planned switch of the rankings did not succeed - the politicians did not support the candidacy pushed by D. Žalimas: 41 members of the Seimas voted in favor, 59 were against and 20 parliamentarians abstained. True, then the candidacies of lawyer Giedrė Lastauskienė and Supreme Court Judge Algis Norkūnas were rejected also. As a result, the rotation of judges of the Constitutional Court has stalled for a long time and aroused many passions, as the term of office of D. Žalimas, which had to end last spring, in the position of the temporary chairman, has been extended. At the same time, it was even speculated that after the change of the ruling majority, an attempt could be made to nominate a close friend of D. Žalimas by the Conservatives. In one way or another, after the Seimas initially rejected the candidacies of I. Danėlienė and later the head of the Seimas Legal Department Andrius Kabišaitis, D. Žalimas remained in the position of the chairman of the court for about another year.

The previous ruling majority could reject I. Danėlienė's candidacy for judges not only because it was submitted by V. Pranckietis. The parliamentarians were hindered not only by this, but also by her friendship with D. Žalimas.

Petras Gražulis spoke in the Seimas hall most famously about trying to put on the robe of a judge for I. Danėlienė only because of this friendship: The chairman of the Constitutional Court, as far as the public speaks, has found a beautiful friend, made her a chancellor, and now wants to make her a judge of the Constitutional Court. ” - speaking about I.Danėlienė. The politician then joked that maybe his Birutė (the mother of P. Gražulis' daughter, who sold smoked fish in a kiosk in Palanga - Ed.) could be installed at least as the director of the Fisheries Department. "One person is accused of exaggeration, and for others everything is possible in our state and they set another example," P. Gražulis moralized.

But I.Danėlienė reacted to these sharp hints a year ago as if politicians were not talking about her, but about something else: She argued that the wrong information was being disseminated about her in a targeted manner and regretted that the alternative truth, which had nothing to do with the real one, could lead to important decisions. I.Danėlienė was disappointed that the Seimas did not pay attention to her experience and scientific activity as a lawyer. The candidate then named how many publications and reports she had published, what excellent results she had achieved at school and during her studies, and in bed. "Really better than anyone else who has studied next to me," the candidate exalted herself, asking to ignore someone's targeted alternative information.

Some politicians then stood up to defend it. For example, the leader of the Freedom Party Aušrinė Armonaitė explained that it should be based on arguments and not on some gossip or sexism. "If I. Danėlienė were a man, would we have heard anything about personal life? Unless he is doing well in his personal life, ”A. Armonaitė was then surprised by the accusations made against the candidate for her close friendship with the chairman of the court. Vytautas Bakas, a member of parliament, also called in speeches not to be taken seriously about this. The politician called them an attack on the candidate, which has nothing to do with reality: “I would really suggest looking at people's competence, not at some kind of stories told in the shelters of politicians. It's just not solid."

However, what was called "alternative truth" or "shelter stories" a year ago became a fact a week ago, which, incidentally, was confirmed in the church. However, what does Žalimas' suggestion mean that if "not the last year, this marriage would not take place"? Maybe if I. Danėlienė had become a judge of the Constitutional Court last year, the couple would have been forced to continue hiding their relationship? In any case, the Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen unexpectedly nominated Vytautas Mizaras to the Constitutional Court. It was blessed by the Seimas in May, and the intrigues surrounding the renewal of the judiciary have finally ended. In June, the Constitutional Court also said goodbye to D. Žalimas. Danutė Jočienė replaced him. By the way, for the first time a woman became the head of this court - neither the gender of the candidate nor the personal life seems to have bothered anyone in the Seimas this time.

At that time, D. Žalimas unsuccessfully sought to become the director of the Center for Eastern European Studies established by the Government. Conservatives were said to be particularly interested in this, not wanting the former judge to return to the party and wind up or try to compete with Gabrielius Landsbergis. However, the head of this center, Linas Kojala, surpassed an opponent who suddenly sprouted on his way."
