In 2030, the first autonomous cars will appear on Polish roads

"According to experts from the Motor Transport Institute, autonomous vehicles should appear on Polish roads in 2030. They will be zero-emission, less energy-consuming, reduce the number of road accidents and reduce the deficit of professional drivers.

- However, before autonomization comes to us for good, there are many legal, infrastructural and technological challenges to be solved, which require a systemic and coordinated approach. For example, the law is a barrier, which in many cases does not keep up with technological development. The technology is not yet successful enough to deal with every potential road scenario. There is also the issue of building an expensive infrastructure that will be in a kind of symbiosis with the cars of "tomorrow". It is also very important to increase social awareness and acceptance for robotic vehicles - explains Prof. Marcin Ślęzak, director of the Motor Transport Institute, organizer of the conference.

The research carried out as part of the project shows that over 67 percent of the surveyed road users are afraid of driverless vehicles, and nearly 79 percent. experts point to the lack of trust in new technologies as a barrier to the popularization of self-controlled vehicles. - Public acceptance is a key success factor for any new technology. Safety is a priority for people. Drivers will not accept and trust intelligent vehicles until they are sure that this new technology is safe and comfortable to use. To obtain such approval, however, it is necessary to formulate appropriate regulations, based on the standardization of new solutions, as well as to increase knowledge and awareness through training or information campaigns - says Małgorzata Pełka, Deputy Manager of the Competence Center for Autonomous and Connected Vehicles at ITS.

According to ITS, autonomous vehicles, which should appear on Polish roads already in 2030, will be zero-emission, less energy-consuming, will also reduce the number of road accidents and reduce the deficit of professional drivers. It is estimated that automation, only in the case of heavy goods vehicles, can minimize the demand for drivers by up to 10 percent, and will additionally reduce the costs of fuel consumption and vehicle operation by several billion.

In order to accelerate this evolution in transport, a coordinated state policy and skilful financing of investments will be needed. The expenses will not only concern the fleet. Intelligent infrastructure that communicates with vehicles will also require investment. It also seems necessary to change transport habits as well as take care of safety, especially in mixed traffic - including automated and classic vehicles. An important factor in the success of automation is also ensuring an efficient and safe data flow."

And we, Lithuania, what are we doing? You know, when we seceded from Poland, we turned out childish. Right now we buy children's Turkish drones, kites and balloons. We let them out into the direction of Ukraine and we enjoy making the photo pictures of us for the newspapers like toddlers, even though we are old, fat and completely unsympathetic. It would be better to give those toys to real little ones, and we would go to the outdoor toilets to fine them, because the smell of those toilets brutally compromises the whole of Lithuania in the eyes of all kinds of refugees. Therefore, they do not stop, but continue to run. To the West. No problem. And then we run together with them. And that's already a problem.
