Brazilian President L. I. Lula da Silva again criticizes Israel's actions in Gaza

"Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva once again criticized Israel and reiterated that what 'the Israeli government is doing is not war but genocide,' Al Jazeera reports. "Children and women are being killed," said L. I. Lula da Silva at a public event and later posted his comments on social media.Regarding the uproar in Israel over comments he made last weekend in which he compared Israel's war on Gaza to the Holocaust, Brazil's president said Friday night that people should read for themselves what he said about Israel's behavior: "Read the interview and stop judging me by the words of the Israeli prime minister," the president said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last week that the Brazilian president had "crossed a red line" when he said the actions in Gaza were "not war, it's genocide" and compared the conflict in the Middle East to "when Hitler decided to kill the Jews". . Israel's foreign minister quickly declared the Brazilian president "persona non grata in the state" until he retracted his remarks and issued an apology. Minister Israel Katz later called Lula da Silva's comments "illusions."

In a statement released on Saturday, Lula added: "I support the creation of a free and sovereign Palestinian state. Let this state of Palestine live in harmony with the state of Israel. What the government of the state of Israel is doing is not war, but genocide. Children and women are being killed."
