"We'll let you in on a secret: if you earn an average salary in Vilnius, you can save up for a 2-room apartment in 6 years! Only to paraphrase an old anecdote, you will have to not eat or drink anything, because otherwise you will have to save for 60 years if you don't want to get into a deal with the bank.

 

 In any case, you're lucky, those who earn less and are socially vulnerable have much fewer opportunities to live with dignity.

 

This reality is revealed by the figures of "Ober-Haus": in the capital for an average net salary in 2024 a resident could buy 7.1 sq. m of apartment space. It is predicted that this year they will be able to bite into 7.5 sq. m. However, statistics from the Bank of Lithuania (LB) are even more discouraging, stating that a household is able to save 31–150 EUR per month.

 

So we are saving longer and longer not for the real estate itself, but for the initial deposit to the bank. At least in Vilnius there is something to choose from.”
