Protest against universal real estate tax in Vilnius

 

“Thousands of people gathered in Vilnius' Cathedral Square on Sunday for a protest against the universal real estate tax (RT).

 

"Instead of collecting taxes from oligarchs, they are trying to tax ordinary people," the organizer of the action, Raimondas Šimaitis, told reporters. "The specific request is that residential housing should not be taxed, because residential housing was purchased with money for which we have already paid taxes, for loans."

 

"Residential housing is the place where we must be absolutely untouchable," he added.

 

MP Valius Ąžuolas also arrived at the action, and representatives of "Nemunas aušra" promised to participate in it.”
