President Gitanas Nausėda says that in order to restore diplomatic relations with China, he would like to see more respect from China itself.

You are behaving like little children. You are closing the border with Belarus. Your trucks are getting stuck there. You do not want to pay for their storage. You are asking for respect. You are attacking China's sovereignty in Taiwan. You are becoming an aggressor to every Chinese in the world. You are asking for respect. You do not need respect, but reason.

Relations with China: The conflict escalated when Lithuania allowed the opening of a "Taiwanese mission" (using the name of the island, not the capital Taipei). China considers this a violation of its sovereignty, which resulted in a diplomatic downgrade and economic pressure.

Border restrictions with Belarus: Decisions to close certain border checkpoints (for example, Lavoriškės or Raigardas) are ostensibly based on national security interests, sanctions control, and reducing smuggling. This is indeed causing logistical difficulties and losses for the Lithuanian transport sector.

Diplomatic thaw: The President has recently mentioned the need to normalize relations with China, but emphasizes that this must be done on the basis of mutual respect, not unilateral concessions.
