R. Žemaitaitis: I do not think that the "Nemunas aušra" faction would support the establishment of the Kapčiamiestis training ground

If we want to allow tanks to ride in the territory of nature preserves under the guise of training (are we learning to ride to the girls?), then it is best to allow them to ride in the nature preserve, where the glass house of the President of Lithuania, a communist, G. Nausėda, has been built. After all, Chinese communists will not attack with drones tanks that will be standing in the territory of the most ardent Lithuanian communist. Such antiques from the times of World War II, which have become very expensive these days, need to be specially protected. When rust destroys them, we will take them to Grūtas Park, so that the children will have something to learn about the history of the past century from.

“I don’t see yet that the Nemunas Dawn faction would support the Kapčiamiestis training ground in particular,” R. Žemaitaitis told Žinių radiju on Wednesday.

The parliament should decide on the establishment of a new training ground in the spring.

A part of the Kapčiamiestis community is protesting against the establishment of the training ground, and the president, ministers, and military representatives have met with residents.

The Ministry of National Defense motivates the decision to establish a training ground in Kapčiamiestis by the strategic location of this territory near the so-called Suwalki corridor – it is the most suitable for significantly strengthening Lithuania’s defense capabilities.

Last week, Robertas Kaunas, the Minister of National Defense, introduced the draft law on the training ground. At that time, among other things, it was stated that when it was established, residents who would be forced to sell their property in the territory would receive compensation of more than 51,000 euros.

According to R. Žemaitaitis, the minister “released unspecified figures on the air.”

“I was even more surprised after last week when some figures were broadcast, which were more or less undefined, we will see about that here. They say that there is a law, but we don’t have a law yet. So now the question is – what else can we talk about? Is the divided society still not enough for you? Is this conflict still not enough?” – asked the leader of the “aušrieči” party.

“The further the Ministry of National Defence and the army let uncertainties and some fantasies into the information, the less the Seimas members will start to believe in their desire to do something there,” – he said.

The explanatory note to the law on the Kapčiamiestis training ground states that it is planned to allocate about 50 million euros for the implementation of the law, as far as it relates to the seizure of property for public needs.

R. Žemaitaitis had previously criticized plans to establish a training ground in Kapčiamiestis, but in mid-January, when visiting Lazdijai, he spoke more moderately about the training ground, saying that he was not categorically against this military training area.

At that time, President Gitanas Nausėda stated that if the "aušriečių" faction did not support the planned project to establish a training ground, the Social Democrats should treat it as the end of the coalition.

Prime Minister R. Žemaitaitis downplays his statement

Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė states that she does not evaluate R. Žemaitaitis' statements about the possible opposition of "Nemunas aušra" to the establishment of the Kapčiamiestis training ground and suggests waiting for related votes in the Seimas.

“Let’s wait for the vote itself. As far as I remember, last year we discussed the budget and you asked me the same question, what will happen if the defense budget is not supported? Do you hear the statements or not? How about one way or the other? The budget has been adopted as presented by the Government. First, let’s wait for the discussion, let’s wait for the vote, and then we will make an assessment,” said I. Ruginienė at a press conference on Wednesday.

She also emphasized the unity of the ruling party’s decision on this issue: “The coalition council has made a decision, I will not assess other statements.”
