"The chairman
of the Freedom and Justice party, Remigijus Žemaitaitis, assures that the time
has come for early elections in Lithuania. The board and council of this
political force, assessing the political and economic situation in Lithuania,
emphasized several aspects.
"We notice
that Lithuania, for the annual inflation in August reaching 22.4 percent,
according to inflation indicators, it is one of the leaders in Europe, and the
Lithuanian Government and the ruling majority of the Seimas did not prepare any
solutions during the summer that would stabilize inflation and ensure adequate
incomes for the people of Lithuania," states the text of the "Freedom
and Justice" party.
The political
force also states that "Lithuania faces an unprecedented energy
crisis".
"At the same
time, forced market liberalization is carried out, artificially increasing the
already high electricity prices by 25 percent for those who have not chosen an
independent supplier." Meanwhile, the Government and the ruling majority
of the Seimas have so far not taken any measures to stabilize energy prices and
ensure that only reliable and financially stable suppliers enter the energy
market", said representatives of the political party.
They recognized
that "the irresponsible actions of the Government discredit Lithuania in
the international arena, and rash decisions that are not in harmony with the EU
and strategic partners often have negative consequences for Lithuanian
businesses".
"We claim
that the Government and the ruling majority of the Seimas that formed it do not
make serious efforts to protect Lithuanian businesses in a crisis situation, to
compensate for the losses they suffer due to inconsistent policies, and to save
jobs. We notice that the two years of the term of this Seimas have proved that
constructive decision-making, dialogue between the opposition and the ruling
party in the Seimas is impossible, often imitative and based on the lies of the
ruling party and unfulfilled promises to create joint working groups", the
political party "Freedom and Justice" criticized the current
government."
They said that
those in power are "constantly drowning in the solution of controversial
and self-created problems, which in no way promotes the well-being of the
people of Lithuania".
"Freedom and
justice" representatives assured that "early Seimas elections are
necessary in the country without a qualitatively new government".
"Taking into
account President Gitanas Nausėda's announcement on September 8 that the
Government needs to overload Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė's government as
soon as possible, in response to the criticism of the ruling majority of the
coalition partners, the Lithuanian Christian Democrats of the Fatherland Union,
to the coalition partners regarding inappropriate work in the ministries they
manage, and their representative J. Razmas comments made by the Minister of
Environmental Protection, Simonas Gentvilas, and possible manifestations of
corruption in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, understanding the
thoughts expressed by the Minister of Economy and Innovation and the leader of
the Freedom Party, Aušrinė Armonaitė, "... there are currently no people
who can replace this government...", we emphasize that the current
government has lost the trust of the people of Lithuania.
73 percent of the
country's population would like the government to change after the Seimas
elections (Baltijos tyrimai, August 2022). We take into account the support of
factions in the Seimas: TSLKD faction 50 members, LŽVS faction 20 members, In
the name of Lithuania 16 members, Freedom faction 11 members, Lithuanian
Regions faction 9 members, LSDP faction 12 members. With the support of 118 members
of the Seimas, we note that the further work of this Seimas and the Government
is impossible.
We are convinced
that early Seimas elections and a qualitatively new government are necessary in
the country, which would have the trust of the majority of Lithuanian people
and the desire and ability to work for Lithuania", the party
representatives wrote.
"Freedom and
Justice" chairman Remigijus Žemaitaitis promises to register the relevant
Seimas resolution on the announcement of early Seimas elections."
