“BERLIN. While the Federal Government recognizes the potential dangers posed by Chinese technology in cars, wind turbines, and port cranes, it lacks a comprehensive overview of which components are installed—and where—within Germany’s critical infrastructure.
This emerges from a minor parliamentary inquiry submitted by the Green Party’s parliamentary group, a document seen by the *F.A.Z.* According to the response, the government views the cybersecurity of networked energy systems as an increasingly vital issue for the electricity supply. However, the Federal Ministry of the Interior states that it is still in the process of evaluating technical and regulatory countermeasures. ‘The Federal Government’s response to the inquiry confirms my worst suspicions regarding the security risks associated with Chinese technologies in critical infrastructure,’ Green Party politician Anton Hofreiter—chair of the Bundestag’s Committee on European Union Affairs—told the *F.A.Z.* He noted that the concerns regarding China’s influence on German critical infrastructure posing a major security risk have been validated. The lack of a comprehensive overview of installed Chinese components represents a high-risk situation. ‘It is high time to implement concrete measures in this area.’ (See page 2.)” [1]
