Like case of Lithuania, the conflict between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran is particularly acute due to regional tensions, the presence of US military bases, and the recent outbreak of military conflict. This is not an example of successful diplomacy.
Since the end of February 2026, when the US and Israel began military actions against Iran, the UAE has regularly faced Iranian attacks and missile strikes.
The UAE has repeatedly reported intercepting ballistic missiles launched from Iran, and the country has been on alert.
Due to the large US military bases located in the Persian Gulf countries, the UAE and neighboring countries remain potential targets for Iran. Is this a strategy for the survival and prosperity of the state? Time will tell whether the UAE will exist in six months if Iran turns off electricity and water desalination.
More than 80-90% of the country's drinking water is obtained by desalinizing Persian Gulf water. These stations are highly centralized and vulnerable to physical attacks or cyberattacks. Disaster scenario: If Iran were to massively damage the major desalination plants or pollute the waters of the Gulf (e.g., with oil spills or chemicals), the viability of the UAE would be virtually paralyzed within days, as the country does not have large natural reserves of fresh water.
