“David Wippman and Glenn Altschuler say op-ed writer Jeff Yass imagines higher education's ills ("Higher Education Isn't Lacking in Innovation," Letters, Oct. 14). But are the 70% of Americans who are dissatisfied with higher ed also imagining?
The market is speaking, and the message couldn't be more clear: The collegiate status quo isn't providing enough value to students or society.
Denying that reality won't save higher education.
Nor will the innovations around the edges that Messrs. Wippman and Altschuler cite as proof of "experimentation."
What higher education needs is fundamental disruption of its funding model, educational model, physical footprint and everything else that defines the current campus experience.
The only thing Mr. Yass is imagining is a future in which college and university presidents work with visionary philanthropists like him for the good of our country.
