Gabrielius Landsbergis hardly invented the scandal with China himself. The fingerprints of his grandfather Vytautas Landsbergis are clear here. The
Landsbergis family knows how to privatize the benefits for them and to nationalize,
transfer to the entire Lithuanian nation, the problems that arise. The most
striking example of this is relations with the Poles. The gang led by Vytautas
Landsbergis adopted laws unheard of in the world and turned land in Lithuania
into movable property. Under the guise of his wife, Vytautas Landsbergis
transferred lands from the village and occupied lands in Vilnius that legally
belong to the Poles of Vilnius. The whole gang repeated it. Expensive lands in
Vilnius were privatized in the name of the Landsbergis family and their henchmen.
The problem in relations with the Poles remains for the whole of Lithuania.
It was hoped to repeat this with China. If we had succeeded
in creating a color revolution in China (unfortunately, we failed), Gabrielius
Landsbergis, as the first and fiercest fighter against the Chinese, would
become a prominent figure in the European Union with all the privileges. And we
would be left with a huge bag of losses due to the ruined relations of
Lithuania with the factory of the world, China. How did this scandal end?
"Two years ago, we resolutely announced that we were
"standing on the side of democracy" when establishing the Taiwanese
embassy in Lithuania. Matas Maldeikis, the chairman of the Parliamentary
Relations Group with Taiwan, fought militarily against authoritarian China. The
politicians in charge of our foreign policy also quarreled - the President and
the Minister of Foreign Affairs - not about the content, but about how to name
that embassy: Taiwan's or Taiwanese. We boasted about fighting the Chinese dragon,
and famous political scientists emphasized that "Values have become
Lithuania's trademark".
We established the embassy. Local name disputes didn't help.
China realized that at least in the beginning we were de facto setting up an
embassy of Taiwan, and it was no joke that they got angry.
We took particularly
painful measures for the Lithuanian economy. The loading of Klaipėda port fell,
the import of Chinese goods to Lithuania decreased, and the export of
Lithuanian goods to China plunged to unprecedented lows. The "Values"
brand brought only losses in the economy: we calculate the overall consolidated
negative result for Lithuania not in tenths of the gross domestic product
(GDP), but as a percentage of GDP. In real numbers - hundreds of millions of euros.
"A large part of the production that used to travel to China will
definitely find its markets," reassured Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis,
while traveling around Australia and Singapore. Unfortunately, he did not manage to move Klaipėda's port to Australia.
"Values pushing" politicians created work for our
diplomatic corps: we demanded that the European Union put pressure on China for
illegal actions against Lithuania. We even went as far as the World Trade
Organization. Besides that, we "knit" relations with Taiwan - Seimas
Speaker Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen herself traveled to the distant country.
Investments worth billions have been promised, which will more than compensate
for the "embassy" damage to the Lithuanian budget. But billions of
investments flowed to Germany and Poland. And Lithuania received a
"nose" with several million for several companies.
Today, after two years, value politics has come to an end.
Wise people scoff: "value foreign policy" has been deregistered
from the Lithuanian trademark register. When the Taiwanese foreign minister
arrived in Lithuania, G. Landsbergis demonstratively did not meet with the
Taiwanese official. Even in this situation, M. Maldeikis found arguments. And
G. Landsbergis "consistently" repeated: "we adhere to one China
policy <...>, which implies that we do not maintain official
contacts."
Dissonance? Yes, this is a permanent in our state run by thieves and musicians. Also a vacuum in
policy of wisdom, selflessness and true values for Lithuania. I hope we will
soon fill that vacuum with their responsibility. Not only politically, but also
legally."
